City gets big race results locally and nationally!

Last weekend City of Cambridge was racing both locally at ‘Head of the Cam’ and the Junior InterRegional Regatta (JIRR) with big wins locally and strong signs from the juniors in Nottingham.

In Cambridge the women’s squad set the fastest women’s time of the day winning the Head of the Cam shield, putting 17s into the top eights from both Jesus and Clare, both of whom had set the pace for colleges in Lent term.
The Men’s senior squad also won the shield with the eight finished a few seconds ahead of a college composite that had been put together with the aim of breaking the course record and 14s ahead of the next fastest town M1. The men’s squad also set the fastest times in the 1x, 4+ and 4x to win every category they entered at the weekend.

In total, of the 16 categories City entered, the club won 10, with the masters squad winning the MxMasD-F 2x, the OpMasD-G 2x and MxMasC 8+ ahead of strong local competition and the junior squad winning both the open and women’s J17 4x ahead of the Leys School.

In Nottingham the junior squad was also racing at the JIRR, with six athletes selected to represent the Eastern Region.
In the WJ15 2x, a full City crew came 4th in its final. Whilst in the J16 eights, City had athletes selected for both the boys and girls composite eights, with both eights going on to finish 5th overall having come 4th in qualifying.
