Juniors Programme

CCRC has an active junior squad for rowers aged between 13 and 18, with around 20 - 30 members.

The club aims to introduce rowing to young people and to help them to enjoy and progress in the sport. We have two sides to the junior squad: a racing squad and a recreational squad. Juniors are matched to one of these groups depending on their own ambitions and level of commitment. Some juniors will compete in local and regional regattas and races against other junior rowers from other clubs. Where juniors progress in their training and rowing ability, there is the option, too, to aim to race at national level races.

The main junior sessions are:

  • Wednesday - 5.15-6.30pm
  • Thursday - 5.15-6.30pm
  • Saturday - usually 11am-1pm
  • Sunday - usually 11am-1pm

Juniors aiming for national races may opt to do additional sessions (often as a double session at the weekend, from 9am-1pm) in order to help them progress to top competitive levels.

We take on new beginner juniors at various stages through the year, depending on squad capacity and the numbers of people interested in starting. We try to start beginners with others in the same age group as them and for this reason we are currently focusing on new rowers in Years 8 and 9 (aged 12-14). If you are interested in taking up rowing, please contact the Junior Coordinator to register your interest and be kept informed of new beginner squad intakes by emailing juniors [at] cityrc.co.uk.
