CCRC has an active junior squad for rowers aged between 12 and 18, with around 40 members. The club aims to introduce rowing to young people and to help them to enjoy and progress in the sport. We have two sides to the junior squad: a racing squad and a recreational squad. Juniors are matched to one of these groups depending on their own ambitions and level of commitment. Some juniors will compete in local and regional regattas and races against other junior rowers from other clubs. Where juniors progress in their training and rowing ability, there is the option, too, to aim to race at national level races.

Junior Taster Day

CCRC's junior section runs taster days for juniors during the school holidays about 3 or 4 times per year. These days give the potential rower a chance to have a go at all aspects of rowing (indoor rowing, circuit training as well as getting out on to the water) to see whether it is a sport they may enjoy. The days are good fun and open to all.

If you would like to be kept informed of the date of our next taster day, please send a request by email to  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Fourth at Inter-Regionals

The club was represented by Pernille Nielsen at the national Junior Inter-Regional Regatta. Pernille raced in a composite eight formed by scullers from six regional clubs selected from the regional trials. Despite limited time together and all being new to sweep rowing, the girls came second in their heat to go through to the A Final. The fight for the silver and bronze medals was extremely close, with Durham ARC, Lady Eleanor Holles School and the Eastern Region composite going through half way level. Pernille’s composite crew finished 4th, a huge achievement at a major national race.

12 wins at Champs Junior Sculling Head

The juniors picked up 12 category wins at the Champs Junior Sculling Head, finishing as the most successful club of the day for the second year in a row. There were dominant performances from the top boys and girls, and gutsy race wins from Camille in WJ15 1x and Ottilie and Ellen in the WJ14 2x. The race also featured first races from some of the younger juniors, with Bella, Alice and Mathieu trying singles for the first time, and Ellie and Floss racing well in a double.

Bronze for Bella at NJIRC

Bella wins Bronze

Strong performances at Eastern Region trials

Pernille (WJ16 1x), Camille (WJ15 1x) and Katherine and Becca (WJ15 2x) attended trials for the Eastern Region team. All four raced brilliantly to produce some very competitive results, which stand them in good stead for the coming season. Camille and Pernille's results in singles earned them places in the Region's composite 8+, which won in a race-off against the top crews in the region for selection for 'Team East' at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta.
